Working With Families, Law Enforcement and Mental Illness by John Gernandt

Learn about what John Gernandt has been presenting to Madison police officers going through CIT (Critical Intervention Training). CIT Training is for officers to learn more about dealing with individuals and families who are experiencing mental health disorders. When an officer goes on a mental health crisis call, they are trained in listening, empathy skills, and de-escalation techniques. John has been woking with officers throughout Dane County, telling his family story, as well as training with empathy techniques. He will share some of that experience with you today.
