Prairie Unitarian Universalist Society seeks a half-time minister to serve our congregation of 100 members. We are a people of diverse religious beliefs, but share the 7 UU Principles, the first of which affirms the inherent worth and dignity of all persons. As UU’s, we believe that personal experience, conscience and reason should be the final authorities in religion. As a historically lay-led congregation, Prairie offers a shared ministry opportunity. We seek a kindhearted, thoughtful and open-minded person to collaborate with us. Together we create a community supporting each other in the joys and concerns of our spirited and energetic membership.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Pastoral Care: provide counseling and support to members of diverse orientations in philosophy, gender, ethnicity and spirituality.
- Spiritual Leadership: provides guidance in faith issues and spiritual focus.
- Prepares and delivers engaging sermons, reflections or discourse 1-2 Sunday programs/mo.
- Works collaboratively with the Board, Program Committee and Caring Committee.
- Officiate life passages/transitions: weddings, memorials, dedications.
- Fosters a welcoming environment for families.
- Be available in times of crisis.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Brings a working knowledge of ministerial professional ethics.
Desired Qualifications
- Coursework or credential from a theological seminary, or relevant coursework or degrees in social work, psychology, counseling, minimum one unit of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
- Ordination by another UU congregation or equivalent experience as a minister, chaplain or spiritual leader.
- Knowledge and willingness to learn about Unitarian Universalism.
Salary commensurate with desired qualifications and experience: $31,000-$36,000 + benefits
