“Democracy Aint Easy” by Mark Richards

Our democracy is under attack. Although the attack has taken its most blatant forms in the past eight years, the assault began in the 1950’s and has been building strength for over sixty years. Reflecting on the work begun by Dr. Nancy McLean in her book, Democracy in Chains, we will consider how autocratic forces have systematically brought about our present crisis. We will conclude by discerning how people of faith, working in concert, can bring spiritual values into the political arena and turn the tide of this movement. Our Unitarian Universalist congregations alone may not be enough, but we can make enough of an impact to change its course.
