“Humanism: In Command or in Crisis?” by Rev. Dr. Michael A. Schuler
Rev. Dr. Schuler’s presentation will be based on his recently published book by the same name. Elements of the discourse will include a description of “doctrinal” humanism as he understands it together with a review of the thought of its most notable proponents. Humanism’s contemporary critics include poets, well-known novelists, life scientists and historians, as well as religious figures and public intellectuals. Many of these feel that humanism as an ideology has outlived its usefulness. Which side makes the stronger case?
