In the mid 19th century, Unitarians Elizabeth Blackwell and her sister Emily both became medical doctors at a time when such a thing was unheard of. They studied in Europe and opened the first woman-run clinic. Yet, they didn’t support many of the aims of the suffrage movement of their era.
