“Lucy Stone: An American Original” by Robin Proud

Lucy Stone refused to accept any hierarchy of race, class or gender. She also rejected long-time traditions of marriage, occupations, and dress. She was extremely well known at the time but received short shrift in Susan B. Anthony’s history of suffrage because of a schism in the movement. Many of us know her name but little else about her extraordinary life.
